چکیده

Building on abstract reference models, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has established standards for storing, discovering, and processing geographical information. These standards act as basis for the implementation of specific services and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). Research on geo-semantics plays an increasing role to support complex queries and retrieval across heterogeneous information sources, as well as for service orchestration, semantic translation, and on-the-fly integration. So far, this research targets individual solutions or focuses on the Semantic Web, leaving the integration into SDI aside. What is missing is a shared and transparent Semantic Enablement Layer for Spatial Data Infrastructures which also integrates reasoning services known from the Semantic Web. Instead of developing new semantically enabled services from scratch, we propose to create profiles of existing services that implement a transparent mapping between the OGC and the Semantic Web world. Finally, we point out how to combine SDI with linked data.

Towards Semantic Enablement for Spatial Data Infrastructures

Based on abstract reference models, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has established standards for the storage, retrieval, and processing of geographical information. These standards act as foundation for the implementation of concrete services and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). Research on geo-semantics plays an increasing role to support complex queries and discovery across heterogen...

Demonstration: A RESTful SOS Proxy for Linked Sensor Data

Next generations of spatial information infrastructures call for more dynamic service composition, more sources of information, as well as stronger capabilities for their integration. Sensor networks have been identified as a major data provider for such infrastructures, while Semantic Web technologies have demonstrated their integration capabilities. Most sensor data is stored and accessed usi...

8. Towards spatially enabled processes in SDI nodes

It is widely recognised that Spatial Data Infrastructures should support and facilitate the network of spatial data flows between organisations. This chapter focuses on the characteristics of the nodes in this network, which are the organisations that access, use and share spatial data to support their (business) processes. Case study research findings are presented which suggest that structura...

A multidisciplinary research framework for analysing the spatial enablement of public sector processes

Although Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) is a complex concept with many facets, it is widely recognised that SDIs are about facilitating and coordinating spatial information flows. This paper argues that the analysis of spatial information flows should not be separated from the processes in which they are embedded. The paper presents the development of a multidisciplinary research framework t...

Integration and Visualization of dynamic Sensor Data into 3D Spatial Data Infrastructures in a standardized way

Integrating actual sensor data, such as weather or environmental information can improve the value of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) enormously. These applications are nowadays supported by Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) in order to find, access and utilize relevant geodata. In contrast to the mostly static data in conventional Spatial Data Infrastructures (e.g. administrative bound...
